| Nationally, Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910 and as a youth service organization, has taught children good citizenship, social responsibility, and personal life skills. The Camp Fire concept is a combination of the great American tradition of pioneering and the inheritance of Native American lore. These basic back-to-nature traditions, along with modern day expectations, and family strengthening practices, form the culture of today's organization. Locally, the Camp Fire USA Southwest Louisiana Council, was established in 1915. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, Camp Fire programs are directed by trained volunteer leaders from the community.
